A slow going fall

Normally fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Harvest is the reason, It is the time I see the fruits of my labor from early spring until the crops fall into the grain bin.
This year with surgery, I am still not allowed to run equipment, so I sit in my truck and watch my nephew and brother in law have all the fun. Ha ha I tell them I am just a straw boss, sitting on my ass and telling them what needs done. Ha ha
Luckily we are 1/4 done and I have enough grain in the bin to cover all the expenses involved in raising the crop. If I wouldn't of got anything this year, I would of still been in good shape financially, but it is nice to be at the point of makina year.g money for this year. It is definitely a different lifestyle when you only get paid once or twice a year. I have included a picture of my nephew running the combine. He does a good job, just need to get him more experience. Ha ha

Autumn has always been my favorite time of year. When I was young it was probably because my birthday is in the fall. As I have matured i simply find it's a beautiful season. Leaves changing, brisk mornings, farmers reaping, winter warnings.

I'm sorry you're not able to enjoy autumn as usual, but I'm glad you have family around to help.

There is something about stepping out on a cool crisp morning that just feels refreshing.

Yes family is important, since I have never been married and have no kids, what I have goes to my nephew's when I am gone.

I'm glad they are getting the crop in and making you some money. Are they sticking to the organic guidelines?
Do you enjoy being a straw boss?

Yes, I had several offers for neighbors to come in and combine for me, but cleaning out a combine is a pretty big job to keep everything within the organic guidelines. I figured it was easier to have my family run mine. Straw bossing is a pain ha ha it's easier for me to do a job than explain it. Ha ha

Guess there is something special about every season Big, but true "Fall" is usually a lovely time, plus it gets almost perfect temps, not too hot as in summer and not too cold as in winter or unpredictable as in spring! It must be so satisfying for you to reap the benefits of all your hard work during the year, and sorry you had to miss that, but truly glad you are just 'supervising', was worried when you said in a comment to me "you'd been in the fields all day"! So good to have your fam help you, and hey, you still get to enjoy some of it! Hope you are feeling much, much better, and have a great week!

Yep, having family help is pretty good, I did run the combine yesterday, we have everything fine tuned and I was pretty much just holding the steering wheel. I am feeling good, and the weight limits I am on now are to let the chest heal. But at six weeks the chest is supposed to be 70% healed. I am at 7 1/2 weeks and being careful with what I do. Ha ha have a great day
