I haven't paid for the site, but I have had gold membership from time to time. There are no/very few women looking for contacts locally and my interest in finding somebody is purely casual. Having gold does provide one with more information, of course, but it does not mean that you'll get a response. Frankly, the only way I'd meet somebody is after a significant series of IM or mail exchanges whereby you can get to know the other somewhat. This also works via chat and I do know a few women via chat whom I'd happily meet for a drink, at the very least. Would I pay for gold services on this site? Certainly not. The cost benefit ratio is way too low and I have no faith at all in site security (I was recently subjected to an attempt at balckmail through the site). Men often get subjected to scams and people out to part them from their money - women have to run the gammut of some very objectionable men. However, it can and does work - at least sometimes!

Truly I usually ignore the standards unless they have a good profile. That said, I, too, dislike wasting my time trying to "educate". I have other things to do and blog projects I am working on. I am not stuffy but I am particular (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

For most of my time here I have passed on paying as there are few women here from my area (roughly a 100 mile radius) and many are not interested in older guys. I do read women's profiles, using points, and frankly many have very little to say beyond what seems to be boiler plate statements. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

ahhhh not everyone ignores the standard contacts i have a paid sub that allows standard contact to message and chat with me ..but and bigger but i have had standard contacts message me and some of them are just plain freaking nasty...if they are contacting people might be a good idea for those who like trash talk to actually keep moving....I am fussy who i chat with and like pocogato says i am not stuffy... but i am particular...the people i talk to gotta have a good looking profile ...

it is a cruel world, one gets something for nothing!!! I think NOT, if they want to play they have to Pay at some point either through subscriptions or through the points system..it is a judgment call to have Gold. but if one looks at his budget he throws more than this away each month.. and if the site is worked properly one can tally up some useable points($). I've been on the site for more than 6 years my lady as a standard plebe - watching blogs mainly, and interacting through here All those glitches and bugs have discouraged me from actually paying for a membership Besides,I'm on an on and off basis here,according to my free time Cheers - P

For me, 12K2, I paid for standard members to contact me. How many have done so ? ZERO. Why? Many reasons why, as you already know, like life is not free ! Gold or standard doesn't really matter most either, when it comes to people reading profiles; only the access to such, and not the opportunity to do so, is the difference. Others need to bring something to the table - well said ! Unfortunately, those you want to view your words, probably won't, and are the same people that don't learn ( I don't want to judge others, and I'm not lumping ALL into this category. I'm just saying... ). Getting back to paying for standards to contact me... I would NOT pay for that anymore. They have ways to earn points to do such. if they are worth it, then they will earn it ! Being curious and asking questions is a good thing!

I have had some good conversations on the site ( most of them with you, 12FK2) but must admit the glitches have kept me from having a paying membership. I can understand why someone would choose to ignore a standard member of not take them as serious as a gold member but it is still frustrating. I think paying for membership tends to weed out a lot of the simply curious.

I use a 'Private Mail Box' on my blog. Works great... for anyone ,who can READ. I guess it's about perceptions. You've had some bad luck... I'm a "Standard"... occasionally. 😊 Until I'm not. I go GOLD once in a while. Oooo... what a HUGE difference. lol Yep.
